Turning the World on its - Side?

Wisely, we are beginning to design new efficiencies and enlightened qualities into our systems.  From energy to water, from cars to buildings, from materials to business models -- these systems have all been enjoying a serious second look.  This is both essential and innovative in its own way.   But sometimes, to really change how things work, we need to turn a system on its side.

This kind of thinking is what today's highlighted story represents - literally.   Our featured innovator has taken the very concept of "landscape" and turned it 90 degrees.  "Vertical landscaping" uses the load-bearing potential of walls to bring the "green roof" concept into closer range.  The result is a fresh vision.  This vision could reduce the heat-island effect in our cities.  It could radically improve quality-of-life.  It could reconnect an urban culture with nature.  It could create a new industry.  In the language of SMART, this vision is systems-savvy.

Most of all, Vertical Landscaping represents a mental shift.   What in your world could you turn on its side - metaphorically?  If turned on its side, where would it "point"?   What "gravitational" or other natural forces would be brought to bear?  How would the "load-bearing" dynamics change? What opportunities would that create?

To realize them, it is necessary to connect knowledgeable visionaries with enlightened partners.  Bold design will reshape our expectations.   Bold action will drive our experiments.  Bold results will change our experience.  In the language of SMART, this creative chain is very regenerative.
